Quick Answer: A full junk removal truck holds 10–16 cubic yards — roughly a 12×12 room packed to the ceiling. Junk Nurse’s truck holds about 15 cubic yards. A full load runs $500–$650. We charge by actual volume used, not a flat “full load” minimum.
How big a junk removal truck actually is
Most junk removal trucks fall in the 10–16 cubic yard range. Junk Nurse’s truck is approximately 15 cubic yards. That means:
- Length: 12–14 feet
- Width: 7–8 feet
- Height: 5–6 feet of usable interior height
If you stack items to the ceiling efficiently, a 15-yard truck holds:
- The contents of a 12×12 room packed to the ceiling, or
- A small 1-bedroom apartment’s worth of furniture, or
- A typical full garage cleanout, or
- A typical full basement cleanout (smaller basements)
What fits in a full truck load
Typical full-truck content scenarios:
- Basement cleanout: 1 couch, 2 chairs, dresser, 30–40 boxes, exercise bike, old TV, holiday decorations
- Garage cleanout: 2 grills, lawn mower, old furniture from porch, 20 boxes, broken patio set, bicycles, tools, snow blower
- Apartment cleanout: sectional couch, dining set, queen bed, dresser, TV, electronics, kitchen contents
- Whole-house furniture: 2 couches, 2 beds, dining set, multiple dressers

Why Junk Nurse charges by actual volume, not flat full-load minimum
Some haulers quote “$500 for a full truck” regardless of whether your stuff fills 50% or 95% of the truck. That benefits them, not you.
We use incremental volume pricing:
- 1/8 truck: $150–$200
- 1/4 truck: $200–$275
- 1/2 truck: $275–$425
- 3/4 truck: $425–$525
- Full truck: $500–$650
If your stuff fills a 1/2 truck, you pay for a 1/2 truck. If we estimated 3/4 truck and it ends up at 1/2, the price comes down. The walkthrough number is firm; the only adjustment is downward if the load is lighter than expected.
What if I need more than one truck?
For larger jobs, we run multiple trucks or multiple trips. Common scenarios:
- Estate cleanouts (often 2–5 truckloads)
- Hoarding cleanouts (3–10 truckloads)
- Whole-house cleanouts (1–3 truckloads)
- Foreclosure properties (1–3 truckloads)
Multi-truck jobs are priced per truck plus walkthrough volume. We give you a total at the start so you know the full project cost.
What if my stuff is bigger than one truck but smaller than two?
We’ll do one trip to disposal, come back, and finish the load. You pay for the volume of one truck plus the partial overflow at the next bracket up. We won’t make you pay for two full trucks when your stuff fills 1.5.
How to estimate volume yourself
Rule of thumb: the average residential refrigerator is about 1 cubic yard. A standard 6-foot sofa is about 2–3 cubic yards. A queen mattress and box spring is about 2 cubic yards. A washer or dryer is about 1 cubic yard. A pickup truck bed (8 feet) holds about 2–3 cubic yards.
