Quick Answer: Washer and dryer disposal costs $75–$200 per unit at most companies, or $150–$300 for a pair. Junk Nurse includes washer/dryer removal in volume-based pricing — no surprise per-unit fees. Stackable units, basement units, and gas dryer disposal (after plumber disconnect) all included at the same rate.
The price breakdown
- Single unit (washer OR dryer): $75–$150
- Pair (both units): $150–$300
- Stackable unit (single machine): $125–$225
- Pair plus pedestals: $175–$350
- Combined with other appliances (basement cleanout): volume pricing, often $400–$700 total for the whole job
What affects the price
Access
Basement units are the most common challenge. Two people walking a 150 lb washer up basement stairs is the baseline. Tight stairwells, sharp turns, or narrow doorways add time.
Disconnect status
For electric dryers: we handle the disconnect on-site. For gas dryers: a plumber needs to shut off and cap the gas line first (we can’t do gas work).
Stackable units
Stackable washer/dryer combos are heavier per piece and require more careful disconnect (the units have to be separated before they can be removed individually). Slight upcharge.
Combined with other items
If we’re already at your house for a basement cleanout, garage clearing, or estate cleanout, the per-piece cost of the washer/dryer drops substantially under volume pricing.
What the price includes
- Two-person crew (more for tight access)
- Disconnect of water lines and 120V/240V plugs
- Walk-out (including stairs)
- Load and haul
- Disposal — routed to scrap metal recycling, or donation if the units qualify
- No separate “appliance fee” or disposal surcharge
What’s NOT included
- Gas line disconnect (plumber required, not us)
- Repair of leaking valves discovered during disconnect
- Installation of replacement units

What does the retailer haul-away cost vs. Junk Nurse?
When you buy new washer/dryer from Lowe’s, Home Depot, Best Buy, or a local appliance retailer, they typically offer haul-away of the old units for $25–$50 each (sometimes $50–$100 for the pair). This is included with delivery.
If you’re replacing, retailer haul-away is usually the cheapest path. Use it if you can.
If you’re not replacing — or if the retailer can’t come for several weeks — Junk Nurse is the alternative. Same-day in most cases, no waiting.
What if the units still work?
Working washer/dryer pairs sometimes qualify for donation:
- Hesed House (Aurora) — transitional housing apartments need laundry appliances
- Habitat ReStore — resells working appliances
- Furniture Bank of Illinois — client placements
Junk Nurse routes donatable units to these organizations. The cost to you is the same as disposal — we don’t charge more for donation, and donation centers don’t pay us.
What if I just need one unit?
Single washer or single dryer removal runs $75–$150. Most often comes up when one unit dies and you’re only replacing that one. We schedule single-unit pickups same-day in most cases.
Multi-unit jobs
If you’re clearing a rental property, apartment, or commercial laundry room with multiple washer/dryer pairs, we quote on volume. Often substantially cheaper per unit than single pickups.
