Basement cleanouts in Aurora typically run $200 to $800+ depending on volume and access. Aurora-area basements come in three flavors: finished basements (often easier), unfinished storage basements (often more chaotic), and split-level walkout basements (best access). Junk Nurse handles all three. Same-day availability most weekdays.
Typical basement cleanout pricing
- Small partial cleanout (a few large items + accumulated boxes): $200–$350
- Medium basement (1/2 to 3/4 of basement contents): $300–$550
- Full basement cleanout (everything out): $500–$800+
- Basement plus appliances (washer, dryer, water heater, fridge): $400–$900
- Multi-decade hoarding basement: $800–$2,500+, on-site quote
What basement cleanouts typically include
Common contents of Aurora-area basements:
- Old furniture (sectionals, couches, recliners that came down decades ago and never came back up)
- Appliances — especially second refrigerators, deep freezers, washers and dryers
- Exercise equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, weight benches — the post-COVID staple)
- Accumulated boxes (holiday decorations, kids’ old toys, paperwork, memorabilia)
- Tools and workshop equipment
- Old electronics (TVs, computers, stereo systems)
- Mattresses and bedding
- Sports equipment
- Pool table or other game furniture (sometimes)
- Holiday and seasonal items (artificial Christmas trees, lawn decorations)
- Old paint cans, fuel cans (hazmat — we’ll separate)
What affects basement cleanout pricing
1. Volume
The biggest factor. A basement with a few large items plus boxes is different from a basement packed floor-to-ceiling with 30 years of accumulated stuff.
2. Access — the basement stairs themselves
Aurora basements come in different staircase configurations:
- Standard straight stairs to the main floor: baseline access
- Split-level half-flight stairs: easier, often the easiest
- Switchback stairs with landing: trickier for large furniture
- Walkout basement to backyard: easiest of all (we can sometimes use the walkout)
- Stairs with low ceiling clearance: harder for tall items
Walkout basements are 10–20% easier than full-flight basements because we can use the exterior door.
3. Disassembly requirements
Many basement items came down in pieces — sectionals, entertainment centers, exercise equipment, pool tables — and have to leave in pieces. We bring the tools.
4. Heavy items mixed in
Old chest freezers, treadmills, riding mowers, water heaters, and similar dense items add weight to the load. With volume pricing, this is built in; with per-item pricing at other companies, these would be surcharged.
5. Hazmat presence
Old basements often have paint cans, fuel cans, pool chemicals, pesticides, propane tanks. We’ll separate these out and point you to Kane County hazmat events. The rest gets handled as standard.

Common basement cleanout scenarios
Pre-finishing prep
You’re about to finish your basement. The contractor needs the space clear. Everything has to go. Typical: $400–$700 for a full cleanout.
Selling the house
Real estate agent says the basement needs to look spacious for showings. Time-sensitive. We can usually fit you in same-day or next-day.
Post-flood or water damage
Sump pump failed, water came in, the basement contents are now water-damaged. We coordinate with restoration companies and haul the items. Sometimes we’re working alongside the restoration team.
Estate or downsizing
Parent moved out; family needs the basement cleared. Often emotionally challenging — we work with you on pacing and on what to save vs. clear.
Decluttering
30 years of accumulation. Time to deal with it. Most basement cleanouts we do fall into this category.
What we handle differently in basements vs. other rooms
Stairs
Every item has to come up. We use appliance dollies with stair belts, moving straps, and 2–3 person teams. Slow and methodical.
Tight ceilings
Many Aurora basements have 7-foot ceilings or lower. Tall items (armoires, entertainment centers, exercise equipment) sometimes have to be disassembled in the basement before extraction.
Floor protection
For finished basements with nice carpet or flooring, we lay moving blankets and walk carefully. We don’t drag items across finished surfaces.
Sort as we go
In packed basements, we sort donatable from disposal as we work. Hesed House and Habitat ReStore receive a lot of what we pull out of basements.
What you can do before we arrive
- Tell us what categories of items are in the basement (furniture, appliances, exercise equipment, boxes)
- Note any items you want to keep — either move them upstairs or mark them clearly
- Make sure the path from basement to driveway is clear of furniture, kids’ toys, planters
- If there’s hazmat (paint, fuel, chemicals), set aside — we won’t take, you handle separately
What we’ll discover
Honest reality: basements often have more than the homeowner remembers. The estimate from a phone call might be 1/2 truck and turn out to be 3/4 truck once we start pulling stuff out.
What this means for pricing: we’ll quote based on what you tell us or photos you send. If reality is different, we tell you the new price before we keep loading. You can:
- Accept the new price and proceed
- Reduce the load by keeping some items
- Cancel without a trip charge
