Quick Answer: Hot tub removal typically costs $250–$500 depending on tub size, access, and whether on-site cutting/disassembly is needed. Most Aurora-area jobs land in $300–$450. Must be drained before pickup. Junk Nurse handles the rest — including cutting the tub down on-site if access is tight.
The price ranges
- Small hot tub (2–3 person), ground-level concrete pad, wide access: $250–$300
- Standard hot tub (4–6 person), normal backyard: $300–$400
- Large tub or limited access (narrow gate, on-site cutting): $400–$500
- Deck-mounted, deck partial removal needed: $500–$700+
- Swim spa or oversized therapy tub: $600–$1,000+, on-site quote
What drives the price
Size of the tub
A 6’ x 7’ standard four-person tub is the baseline. Smaller plug-and-play tubs (300–400 lbs dry) are easier. Larger 6–8 person tubs and swim spas (1,000+ lbs dry) require more crew and more cutting.
Access
The biggest cost driver. Easy access (wide gate, no deck stairs, straight shot to the truck): low end. Tight access (narrow gate, deck stairs, side yard with obstacles): high end.
If we can’t move the tub intact through the available access, we cut it down on-site. A reciprocating saw with a demolition blade reduces a standard hot tub to 4–6 manageable pieces in 60–90 minutes. This adds labor but eliminates access problems.
Decking
If the tub is inset into a deck cutout, removing the tub may require lifting part of the deck. We’ll quote deck work separately if needed.
Drainage status
Drained tubs are ready to remove. Full tubs add 3,000–5,000 lbs of water and can’t be moved — we’ll need to reschedule if we arrive to a full tub.
Power disconnect
For hardwired 240V tubs, the breaker must be off. For plug-in tubs, just unplug.

Pre-pickup prep on your end
- Drain the tub completely. Open the drain valve at the base, attach a garden hose, gravity-drain to a lawn area or storm drain. Takes 2–6 hours depending on tub size.
- Open the cover for 48 hours after draining if possible — lets residual water evaporate from the foam insulation, reducing weight.
- Turn off the breaker for hardwired 240V tubs. (Don’t disconnect wiring at the disconnect box — that’s an electrician’s job; we just need the power off.)
- Remove the cover from the tub itself before we arrive. Old waterlogged covers can weigh 50–100 lbs and need to come off first.
Why hot tub removal costs more than a typical appliance
Three factors push hot tub jobs above standard appliance pricing:
- Weight: 400–800 lbs is heavier than almost any single residential appliance.
- Outdoor access: backyards aren’t designed for moving large furniture out. Gates, fences, landscaping all add complexity.
- On-site cutting (when needed): 60–90 minutes of demo work adds to crew time.
What about HVAC or hot tub-specific haulers?
Some hot tub retailers offer haul-away when delivering a new tub — usually $200–$400 added to the new tub purchase. If you’re replacing, this is sometimes the cheapest path.
For standalone removal (no replacement), Junk Nurse is typically the right call.
How firm is the quote?
Once we’ve seen photos or done an on-site walkthrough, the quote is firm. The price you get is the price you pay — even if it takes us longer than expected, you don’t pay more.
The exception: if we arrive and the tub isn’t drained, we can’t do the job that day. We’ll reschedule. There’s no trip charge.
