Quick Answer: Tipping junk removal crews is not required but is appreciated, especially for difficult jobs (basement carries, multi-story, large volume). $5–$20 per crew member for an average job is common if you’re happy with the work. For premium service (extra-difficult access, going above and beyond), $20–$40 per person is generous and welcome.
Is tipping expected?
No. Junk Nurse pricing covers crew labor in full. We don’t expect tips, and our crews don’t depend on them like restaurant servers or delivery drivers do.
That said, tipping is common in the industry, and crews appreciate it for difficult jobs. It’s a way to acknowledge that the work was harder than typical or that the crew handled something well.
When tipping makes sense
Difficult access
Basement carries, second-floor extractions, multi-story stair climbs, tight doorways with disassembly — these all require more physical effort than a ground-floor pickup. A tip recognizes the additional work.
Large volume
Whole-house cleanouts, estate jobs, multi-truck routes. The crew has been working hard for hours. Even a modest tip is appreciated.
Specialty items
Hot tubs, pianos, large home gyms — jobs where the crew uses specialized equipment and skills. Tipping recognizes the expertise.
Heat and weather
July heat, January cold, hauling in pouring rain. The crew is working in conditions that aren’t pleasant.
Going above and beyond
If a crew member helped you with something extra (moving furniture you wanted to keep, sweeping more than required, being patient with last-minute additions), tipping reflects that.
How much to tip
Typical ranges:
- Standard job, average difficulty: $5–$15 per crew member
- Above-average job (stairs, heavy items, big volume): $15–$25 per person
- Exceptional service or extreme difficulty: $25–$40+ per person
- Small single-item pickup, easy access: $0–$10 (or just thank them — that’s fine too)
Some homeowners tip the crew as a whole (e.g., “$40 for the crew, split it however you want”) rather than individually. Either approach is fine.

Tips beyond money
If you’re happy with the service, other ways to express appreciation:
- Google review — these directly help our crews and the business. Specific reviews (naming the crew, describing the job) carry more weight than generic ones.
- Cold water or coffee on a hot or cold day — always appreciated.
- Recommend us to neighbors — word of mouth is how most of our jobs come in.
- Use us again — the highest compliment.
What if you’re NOT happy with the service?
Tell us. Call (630) 294-1340 and ask for Alex. We’ll make it right. We’ve built Junk Nurse on the reputation that we do what we say — if something went wrong, we want to know.
Tips are for when you’re happy. Honest feedback is for when something didn’t go right.
How crews split tips
Most of our crews split cash tips evenly at the end of the shift. Some teams have specific arrangements (the lead gets a slightly larger share, etc.) but most go even. If you tip $40 to a crew of 2, each takes home $20.
