Junk Nurse, Aurora, IL

Can you negotiate junk removal prices?

Junk Nurse gives firm upfront pricing — no negotiation needed. Reduce the load to lower the price.

Quick Answer: Junk Nurse gives firm upfront pricing — there’s no negotiation needed because the price is set before work starts. If you have a smaller load than expected, you pay for what was actually taken. No bait-and-switch. Pricing is volume-based and consistent; we don’t inflate to leave room for “negotiation.”

How Junk Nurse pricing works (no negotiation)

We quote based on volume after seeing photos or doing an on-site walkthrough. The quote is:

  • Firm — doesn’t change at the curb
  • All-inclusive — covers labor, hauling, disposal, compliance
  • Based on actual volume — if your load is smaller than quoted, you pay less

There’s no built-in negotiation margin we’re willing to discount. The quote is what we need to cover crew, disposal, and overhead while making a fair margin.

What if the price feels too high?

Two options:

1. Reduce the load

If a half-truck quote is more than you want to spend, see if you can keep some items, donate some directly, or sell some before we come. A quarter-truck job is meaningfully cheaper than a half-truck job.

2. Use a different service

For very budget-conscious situations, consider:

  • Aurora bulk pickup (free, scheduled weeks out)
  • Renting a truck and doing it yourself
  • Calling a scrap metal hauler for metal-only items (free)
  • Listing items free on Facebook Marketplace for pickup

We’re happy to lose the job if our pricing doesn’t fit your budget. We won’t pressure you to accept.

What about competitor comparison?

Customers sometimes ask us to match a lower competitor quote. Honest answer: we’ll look at it.

If the competitor is genuinely cheaper for the same scope (including compliance, insurance, donation routing), we may match. But often the competitor’s lower base price hides surcharges that will appear at the curb — mattress fees, appliance fees, stair fees — that we don’t add. In that case, our quote is actually better; theirs just looks lower upfront.

Ask any quote you compare: “Is this the all-in price, or are there surcharges?” Then ask the same question of us. The comparison gets clearer.

The negotiation traps to watch for

Companies that price low and negotiate often use these tactics:

  • Quote low over the phone, then quote “additional charges” at the curb (often when you’re already committed)
  • Use bait pricing (showing competitive numbers that don’t include surcharges)
  • “Discount for cash” — sometimes a tax avoidance signal, sometimes just routine
  • Aggressive door-step negotiation — trying to pressure you when you’ve already cleared space and stopped your day

Junk Nurse doesn’t do any of these. The quote is the quote.

What we DO accommodate

  • Smaller-than-expected load: you pay for actual volume, which may be less than quoted
  • Scope changes you request: “Actually, leave the dresser” — quote drops accordingly
  • Items you want to keep mid-job: no problem; we adjust
  • Hazmat we can’t take: we drop those items from scope; quote may drop

What we DON’T accommodate

  • Mid-job demands to lower the price for the same scope
  • “I’ll only pay $X” pressure after the work is done
  • Requests to skip disposal fees or compliance costs
  • Aggressive haggling at the curb

If you’re not comfortable with our pricing, decline the quote upfront. Once we start work, the agreed price is what we collect.

Why we operate this way

Alex started Junk Nurse after 15 years as a registered nurse. One of the principles that came over: be honest about what you’re doing. That includes pricing.

If we quoted high and let customers negotiate down, we’d be playing games. Some customers would “win” with lower prices; others would pay more for the same service. That’s not fair, and it’s not how Junk Nurse operates.

One price. The right price. Take it or leave it without hard feelings.
