The process is simple, but the details matter. Renting a roll-off dumpster has five basic steps — but plenty of room for things to go sideways if you don’t know what to expect. This guide walks through the full Junk Nurse rental process so you know exactly what happens at each step.
Step 1: Choose Your Size and Project Window
Phone Call or Online Quote
Start with a call to (630) 294-1340 or an online quote request. Plan for a 5-minute conversation covering:
- What you’re disposing of (construction debris, household junk, yard waste, etc.)
- Rough volume (rooms, project scope)
- Your address (we confirm service area and any access considerations)
- Desired delivery date
- How long you’ll need the dumpster
Size Recommendation
Based on the project details, we recommend a size. If you’re between sizes, we’ll usually suggest sizing up — swap fees are more expensive than the next size up.
Pricing
You get a flat quote: delivery, rental period, pickup, and disposal (within weight allowance). Overage rates if applicable. No hidden fees. The price we quote is the price you pay — that’s the Junk Nurse promise.
Ready to get a quote? Call (630) 294-1340 or request online. Five minutes and you’re booked. Mon–Sat, 7am–7pm.
Step 2: Schedule Delivery
Lead Time
Most deliveries can happen within 24–48 hours of booking. Same-day delivery is sometimes possible if you call early in the morning and we have inventory available in your area.
Delivery Window
We provide a delivery window (typically a 2–4 hour block) rather than an exact time. The driver will call when they’re 20–30 minutes out so you can move cars or be ready.
You Don’t Have to Be Home
For most driveway placements, you don’t need to be home. Confirm the placement spot during the booking call. Mark the spot with cones, chalk, or even just a clear text message.
Confirm Placement Details
During the booking call, we confirm:
- Driveway dimensions and surface
- Overhead clearance (trees, lines)
- Path for delivery truck
- Whether plywood boards are needed (we provide them as standard)
Step 3: Receive the Dumpster
What Happens at Delivery
- Driver arrives within the delivery window
- Reviews placement spot
- Sets plywood boards if needed
- Positions the dumpster carefully
- Confirms placement with you (if home) or moves on
Total time on site: usually 15–20 minutes.
Quick Walk-Around
If you’re home, take a quick look at the dumpster after delivery. Verify the door (rear gate) works, the location is what you wanted, and there are no obvious issues. Easier to fix anything immediately than after you’ve started loading.
Step 4: Load at Your Pace
Standard Rental Window
You have up to 7 days (standard) to load. Extension available at a daily rate if needed.
Loading Best Practices
- Heavy items on the bottom, distributed evenly
- Break down bulky items (cabinets, furniture) for better volume use
- Fill hollow spaces (drawer interiors, appliance cavities) with smaller debris
- Watch the rim — load level, don’t pile above
- Cover with a tarp during rain if you have weight-sensitive material (drywall, cardboard, carpet)
What If Plans Change?
- Need more time? Call us — daily extension fees apply.
- Done early? Call for pickup — no penalty for early pickup.
- Need a second dumpster? Call us — swap-outs or additional rentals available.
Step 5: Pickup
Scheduling Pickup
Two ways pickup happens:
- You call when ready. Give 24 hours notice when possible. We schedule pickup the next available day.
- Auto-pickup at end of rental window. If we haven’t heard from you by day 7, we automatically schedule pickup. Call us to extend if you need more time.
What Happens at Pickup
- Driver arrives during the pickup window
- Checks load for prohibited items (if visible) and overfill
- Hooks up the dumpster
- Hauls to transfer station for weight check and disposal
Time on site: 15–20 minutes, similar to delivery.
After Pickup
Final invoice processed. If you stayed within the included weight, the invoice matches the original quote. If you went over, the overage charge appears on the final invoice. Junk Nurse confirms the weight and any overages with you.
What Happens to the Contents After Pickup
The dumpster goes to a regional transfer station where:
- Weight is recorded for billing
- Contents are inspected for prohibited material
- Recyclables (metal, in particular) may be separated
- Remaining debris is consolidated for landfill or further processing
Unlike junk removal, dumpster rental typically doesn’t include donation routing — the volume and mixed nature of dumpster contents makes individual sorting impractical. If donating matters to you, junk removal is the better fit.
Common Questions During the Process
Can I Add More Time Mid-Rental?
Yes. Call us at least 24 hours before the end of your standard window. Daily extension rates apply.
Can I Swap Sizes Mid-Rental?
Yes. If you booked too small, we can pick up the full dumpster and deliver a bigger one. Swap fees apply.
What If I Damage the Dumpster?
Normal wear is fine. Significant damage (fire damage from putting hot debris in, deep dents from heavy machinery) may incur a damage fee. Don’t put burning material in the dumpster.
What If I Damage My Driveway?
Junk Nurse uses plywood boards to protect surfaces, but driveway damage from your loading (point loads from heavy items, debris piling) is your responsibility. Spread weight evenly and don’t pile concrete in one corner.
Can I Lock the Dumpster?
You can lock the rear gate to prevent neighbors from adding debris, but you don’t need to. We’ll work around any reasonable security measures.
Payment
Junk Nurse typically takes payment at the time of booking via credit card. Final invoice includes any extensions, overages, or additional services. Net-30 billing available for established contractor accounts.
What Sets Junk Nurse Apart
- Flat-rate pricing. The price we quote is the price you pay.
- On-time delivery. We show up when scheduled.
- Driveway protection included. Plywood boards standard.
- Real local service. Aurora-based, family-run.
- $1M liability insurance. Documented for any commercial or contractor account.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Booking too small — swap fees cost more than sizing up.
- Starting too late in your rental window — leaves no buffer for delays.
- Not telling us about heavy materials (concrete, dirt) up front — leads to weight overages.
- Letting neighbors add debris — you pay for their volume.
- Forgetting overhead clearance — trees and lines block delivery.
