How to Get an Accurate Junk Removal Quote

Three quote methods: photo via text (fastest), on-site walkthrough (most accurate), or phone description.

An accurate junk removal quote takes 5 minutes to get. Junk Nurse offers three quote methods: photo via text (fastest), on-site walkthrough (most accurate, free), or phone description (rough estimate). The quote you get is the price you pay — no surprises at the curb. No trip charge if you decline.

Three ways to get a Junk Nurse quote

Method 1: Photo quote via text (recommended for most jobs)

Send photos to (630) 294-1340. What to send:

  1. Wide shot of the items in their location (kitchen, basement, garage, room)
  2. Close-ups of any large or specialty items (fridge, hot tub, piano, exercise equipment)
  3. Path from items to the front door or driveway (doorways, stairs, exits)

We respond with a firm quote within a few hours during business hours, usually within 30 minutes for urgent calls. The quote includes:

  • Total price
  • What’s covered
  • Any special considerations
  • Available pickup windows

Photo quotes are accurate for 95%+ of residential jobs and locked in once you confirm.

Method 2: On-site walkthrough (best for complex or large jobs)

For whole-house, estate, commercial, or large jobs, we send Alex or a senior crew member to your property to:

  • Walk every space
  • Identify volume, special items, hazmat
  • Discuss what you want to keep vs. clear
  • Provide a detailed written quote

Walkthroughs are free. No obligation. No trip charge if you decline.

Method 3: Phone description (rough range)

Call (630) 294-1340 and tell us what you have. We’ll give you a range based on the description. Less accurate than photos but useful for:

  • Initial budgeting
  • Confirming we serve your area
  • Asking specific questions about pickup logistics

For an accurate quote, we’ll ask for photos or an on-site walkthrough.

What we ask in a phone description

To give you a rough range over the phone, we’ll ask:

  • What are you trying to get rid of? (Specific items or general categories)
  • Where is the stuff? (Main floor, basement, second floor, garage)
  • How much, roughly? (One sofa, a couple of items, a whole room, full basement)
  • Any appliances, electronics, or specialty items? (Fridge, hot tub, piano, etc.)
  • Stairs involved? (Basement carry, second floor, etc.)
  • Hazmat or paint involved? (We can’t take, but we can advise)
  • Timing? (Same-day, this week, scheduled)

Why we don’t do drive-by inspection

Some companies will swing by your house, look from the driveway, and give you a quote without coming inside. This rarely produces accurate quotes because they can’t see basement items, can’t see access constraints, and can’t see what’s in the back of the garage.

Either we’re inside with you (on-site walkthrough), or we’re looking at photos you sent us. Anything in between produces quotes that change at the curb.

Get a quote right now. Text photos to (630) 294-1340 or use the contact form. Most quotes back in under an hour.

The quote-to-pickup workflow

  1. Initial contact — you call or text with the basic info.
  2. Photos or walkthrough — we get visual on the job.
  3. Firm quote — we send you the price with details.
  4. You decide — accept, decline, or ask questions. No pressure either way.
  5. Scheduling — if accepted, we schedule a pickup window. Same-day for many jobs.
  6. Pickup — crew arrives in the promised window. They confirm the scope, do the work, sweep up, and collect payment.
  7. Done.

What if the quote changes at the pickup?

It usually doesn’t. The quoted price is the price you pay. But two situations can change it:

1. Reality is significantly different from photos/description

If you said “a basement of stuff” and we arrive to find 3x what was described, we’ll tell you the new price before loading. You can:

  • Accept the new price and proceed
  • Reduce the load by keeping some items
  • Cancel without a trip charge

2. Unexpected items (hazmat, biohazard, etc.)

If we discover items we can’t take (paint cans, asbestos, medical waste), we’ll separate them and adjust scope. Sometimes price stays the same; sometimes it drops because we’re taking less.

What never happens at Junk Nurse: a $200 phone quote becoming a $500 invoice at the curb because of “mattress fees” or “stair charges.” Those costs are built into the quote.

How long does the quote process take?

  • Phone description: 5–10 minutes during the call
  • Photo quote: 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on time of day
  • On-site walkthrough: scheduled 1–3 days out, the walkthrough takes 15–45 minutes

Are quotes valid for a specific time period?

Generally, quotes are valid for 30 days. After that, market conditions or scheduling availability may have changed and we may need to re-quote. We’ll honor recent quotes that haven’t expired.

What if I want to compare with other companies?

Encouraged. Send the same photos to a few different companies. Compare the quotes, terms, and reviews. Things to compare:

  • Total price
  • Whether per-item surcharges are included (mattresses, appliances, stairs)
  • Insurance coverage
  • Online reviews
  • How they handle Section 608 and Illinois e-waste compliance
  • Whether they donate usable items

We’re confident in our pricing and our service. If a competitor is cheaper, ask them where the savings come from — sometimes it’s legitimate, sometimes it’s reduced compliance or insurance.
