The Standard Rental Period
Junk Nurse rentals come with a standard rental period included in the base price — typically up to 7 days for residential roll-offs. Some companies offer 10 or 14-day windows, but those usually price the longer window into the base rate. We keep our base price tied to a 7-day window and let you extend if needed.
The clock starts the day we deliver. If we drop on Tuesday morning, your 7 days run through the following Monday evening, and we’d schedule pickup for Tuesday.
Why Rental Periods Exist
Two reasons: routing logistics and inventory turnover. Each dumpster sitting in your driveway is a dumpster we can’t use for another customer. Rental periods let us keep enough inventory available for everyone who needs one.
How to Plan Your Project Window
The biggest mistake homeowners make is starting the project the same day the dumpster arrives. Better approach: have the dumpster delivered the day before you actually plan to start loading. That way if delivery hits a snag, you’ve got buffer.
Practical timeline for a typical home cleanout:
- Day 0 (Friday). Dumpster delivered. Spend the evening doing a quick walkthrough — what goes, what stays.
- Day 1 (Saturday). Main loading day. Get help. Bring food. Move fast.
- Day 2 (Sunday). Finish loading. Maybe pull items out you’re now second-guessing.
- Day 3–6. Add stragglers as you find them.
- Day 7 (next Friday). Call for pickup or it auto-picks up.

Extension Fees
Need more time? Extensions are available, typically billed at a flat daily rate. Junk Nurse confirms the daily rate up front so you know what an extra week would cost before you commit.
Quick math on whether to extend or swap: if you need an extra 3 days, extending is almost always cheaper. If you need an extra 10 days, sometimes a swap-out (full dumpster picked up, empty one dropped) is comparable cost and gets you a fresh weight allowance.
What If You Finish Early?
Call us. Early pickup is free and gives us inventory back for another customer. The standard rental window is a maximum, not a minimum — there’s no benefit to keeping the dumpster longer than you need it.
Many customers call for pickup on day 2 or 3. We schedule pickup within 24–48 hours.
Auto-Pickup at End of Rental Period
If we haven’t heard from you by the end of your rental window, we’ll come pick up the dumpster on the next scheduled day. You don’t need to call — it’s automatic. If you’re not ready, call us at least 24 hours before the end of your window to extend.
Weekend Considerations
Junk Nurse delivers and picks up Monday through Saturday. Sunday is closed. If you book a Saturday delivery, your 7-day window naturally rolls to the following Friday/Saturday for pickup — which works for most weekend warriors.
If your project absolutely needs Sunday loading (and many estate cleanouts do), schedule a Friday or Saturday delivery and use the weekend at your pace. Pickup can wait until Monday or later.
Multi-Phase Projects
Some renovation projects span weeks. Options:
- Multiple rentals. Get a dumpster for the demo phase, return it, get another for the finish work disposal.
- Long-term rental with extensions. Keep one dumpster for the duration, pay daily extension fees.
- Swap-outs. Schedule the full dumpster to be picked up and a fresh one delivered, restarting your rental window and weight limit.
For most kitchen or bathroom remodels lasting 2–4 weeks, two separate rentals usually beats one long rental in cost.
Tips to Maximize Your Rental Window
- Pre-sort before delivery. Make piles inside the house or garage before the dumpster shows up. Loading becomes assembly-line fast.
- Have help lined up. One person loading takes three days. Three people loading takes one afternoon.
- Don’t second-guess at the dumpster. If you’re not 100% sure, make a “maybe” pile first. Decide at the end.
- Save the heavy/bulky items for after lighter sorting. Mattresses, large furniture — easier to plan loading order once you see how much volume the smaller stuff takes.

If you book and need to cancel before delivery, no problem — call us as soon as you know. If we’ve already delivered, you’ve started the rental. Best path is usually to call for pickup early and end the rental rather than cancel.
